03 Sep 2012 - Storm Leslie has left us with beautiful sunsets and hot weather. We are heading out to search for breeze

It's been a while since I last updated you with any news.

We had been keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Leslie which brushed past us and is expected to be a hurricane as it meets Bermuda this weekend.

We are thinking of all our sailing friends and people on Bermuda and sincerely hope all will be safe.

In Tortola, we had some magnificent 'skies' as the sun set with the passing of Leslie.

We decided to stay at the dock an extra day or two to 'keep an eye' on things and also to spend some time with Gareth and Jenna who were celebrating their first wedding anniversary.

The evening was stunning ... Ana and I had been sitting on board Impi when we were joined by Gareth and later Jenna ... we had 'cranked up the volume' to Dire Straits and the mood was was ripe for an evening of fun ...

Before too long we had a number of people on board Impi and the vibe was terrific.

All the while, the passing storm had left it's mark in beautiful and mysterious ways ... the air was hot and the breeze had been sucked out of the skies to feed Leslie ... the sky turned different colours of blues and reds right before our very eyes ... the evening became 'deadly quiet and still' yet high above us the clouds were swept into streaks reflecting the setting sun ... it made one feel small ... feel the power of God and His creation ... People stopped and stared out to sea with cameras in hand as day struggled against night and finally allowed the sun to seal its kiss on time ...

In the meantime Ana was preparing a beef curry and rice meal for the evening ... the ambiance of nature, music and the smell of good home cooking set the scene for what was to become a long and fun filled night

The following day produced the usual hot, humid and sunny weather we have become accustomed to ... there was not a breath of wind at the dock and it was time to cast the ropes and head for more breeze ... destination ... yeah you guessed it ... our favourite Deadman's Bay on Peter Island.

We had to motor the 3/4 hr it took us to reach Deadman's Bay as there was no wind to speak of.

Arriving at Deadman's Bay we once again met up with our great friends Andrew, Carolyn and kids on Catamaran Champolion ....

Somehow, we always feel this overwhelming feeling of freedom when we drop anchor ... the boat swivels around its anchor always pointing up wind and of course this is really fantastic as with all hatches open the breeze literally 'sweeps' through the boat and cools things down.

The Fehrsen family were scooting across the bay in their dingy and came alongside to greet us at which point we got chatting so much that Ana invited them to join us for lunch.

It was great fun to catch up with all the news and Ana produced some really delicious 'pizza bagels' which were eaten with great delight ... right down to the kids who apparently are not 'big eaters' such as myself.

Of course there was much laughter as we discussed eating habits and how lean and fit the Fehrsen family appear compared to my 'rather large tummy' !

I tried to convince them that it had cost me a lot of money and eating effort to produce this and as such I was not keen to 'just lose it' .... I think my reasoning was discarded by all including Ana ... oh well !!!

The sun once again put on a spectacular show as it kissed yet another day into the history books of time ... here at Deadman's Bay off Peter Island

To my dearest friend Raoul Albers who is going in for a 'tripple by pass operation' to his heart ... we are thinking of you and praying that this operation will be successful ... we think of you at sunrise, we think of you during the day and we think of you in the sunset ... be strong my friend !!!

    1. Thanks Belinda ... we try to bring our experience home to family and friends and sometimes it is difficult to describe all we are doing ... for fear of boring everyone ... so really nice to know it appeals to some!

    1. Hi Tate ... thanks for that ... you know the feeling of course ;)
These storms are pretty twitchy up in these parts ... one sees them rolling off Africa and are not quite sure whether they will develop into much? See one or two have rolled off there again but in the meantime we have decided to just keep sailing and enjoying ourselves.
