01 September 2012 (01:31am BVI) Watching Tropical Storm Leslie ....

Ana and I are finding tropical storm LESLIE interesting!

We are 'green horns' .. at best ... to Tropical Storms and Hurricanes ...

I look at a picture posted on wunderground's web with absolute amazement ...

I see the size of our island as being a 'dot' ... a 'full stop'.

I see the size of Leslie occupying more area than that of the entire Caribbean Island chain put together ... AND BUILDING in size!

Leslie sits East - South - East of us ... the opposite of ESE is ... West - North - West!
The direction Leslie is traveling is West - North - West ... currently covering a track over ground in distance ... 21 Miles every hour

All computer simulations show the track as 'missing' the Caribbean Islands well to the north.

The advisory has the following comment:

...LESLIE CONTINUING WEST-NORTH WESTWARD... ...EXPECTED TO PASS NORTH OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS THIS WEEKEND...

Location: 17.4°N 52.8°W
Moving: WNW at 21 mph
Min pressure: 999 mb
Max sustained: 65 mph

I clearly have a lot to learn and would like to understand how a storm system of this magnitude, covering such a vast area at sea and traveling WNW lying to our ESE is going to miss us!

I totally recognize the fact that there has to be a professional scientific explanation for these track models ... that my 'surprise in this' has to do with a visual perception, but I am assuming the picture is to scale and that the movement is WNW as stated ... but unless this 'dark force' decides to 'pause' and then suddenly head directly north I remain confused!

In the meantime we will plan for the worst and hope for the best ... all indications from the National Hurricane Center point toward a MISS for the BVI region, and that's GOOD NEWS for us!
